Welcome to the XVI Latin-American Congress on Chromatography (XVICOLACRO), this time jointly together with the 9th National Meeting on Chromatography (9ENC), to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 5th - 9th January 2016.
The COLACRO symposium series is the flagship international event for chromatography and related techniques in Latin-America. The series, started in 1986 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) by professor Fernando Lanças, has been held biennial in south-America countries and has become an important medium for the exchange of information and ideas in the expanding field of separation science. On the other hand, the Chromatography group of the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ) was founded in 1999 and since then, organizes a biennial meeting on chromatography in the Portuguese territory having always in mind the promotion and dissemination of these important analytical techniques.
In 2016, COLACRO symposium celebrates the pearl anniversary (30 years) and will be organized, for the first time out of south-American continent, by the Chromatography group of the SPQ, and will take place at the campus of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). Therefore, to mark this partnership, the key theme will be "Building Bridges of Cooperation in Separation Science".
The program will includes plenary lectures, oral communications and poster presentations, in which the driving line will be the fundamentals, developments and applications of chromatographic and related techniques in areas with recognized importance in the society at large such as environment, food, forensic, pharmaceutical, aroma and fragrances, petrochemicals, biochemistry among many others. A highly attractive social program offering opportunities to know outstanding international scientists is also foreseen.
Looking forward to welcoming you to Lisbon in January 2016!
The Organizing Committee,
J.M.F. Nogueira
Chairman, XVICOLACRO & 9ENC
The Latin-American Congress on Chromatography (COLACRO) is among the five greatest worldwide symposiums on chromatography and related techniques. The series, started in 1986 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) by professor Fernando Lanças, has been held biennial in south-America countries and has become an important event in separation science. Until the moment took place in the following places:
The Chromatography group of the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ) was founded in 1999 by professor J.M.F. Nogueira and, since then, organizes a biennial meeting on chromatography in the Portuguese territory, the national most important event in separation science. The University of Lisbon can be easily reached from the airport by taxi (ca. 8 euros) and from the city centre also by taxi or by metro (underground) or bus. Some of the conference hotels are located within a walking distance. The joint fleet of the two public transportation companies, Metro (underground) and Carris (buses and trams), covers the entire city.
Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and lies on the north bank of the Tagus Estuary, on the European Atlantic coast. Lisbon is Europe's second-oldest capital (after Athens).
Lisbon is an illuminated city. The almost constant presence of sunshine and the River Tagus transforms the Portuguese capital into a mirror of a thousand colors - highlighting the city’s unique architecture and beauty.
As you walk through Lisbon - whose history spans back thousands of years - you will find streets filled with heritage monuments, and characteristic neighborhoods where the city first developed and can still be experienced at its most genuine level.
Additional regional highlights, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra, and the Estoril/Cascais coastline including the dramatic cliffs of Cape Roca, the Westernmost point on the European continent.
Visit the website of The Turismo de Lisboa for a detailed list of happenings around town.

1. Taxi
Lisbon Airport is very close to the centre of the city, so you can be at your hotel within minutes of arriving in Lisbon.
Taxis in Lisbon are relatively cheap and convenient. You can catch a taxi from outside the terminal.
It will cost between 8€ and 15€ to reach the city centre; with an extra cost if you travel late at night and with luggage. Make sure you ask for a receipt.
As Lisbon is a highly popular tourist destination and EMARA TRAVEL has pre-blocked a limited number of rooms in different price categories.
Due to the high demand for accommodation, we strongly recommend you to book your hotel accommodation as early as possible.
